This morning, Wednesday, June 27, 2007 from 4am to 10am the AthensGuy.com spam filtering server quit processing messages. No emails were lost. All incoming emails were queued and were delivered as the mail system caught up with the workload. Inbound emails after 10am were not affected and ran through the system without being held up by the backlogged queue. It took a couple of hours for all emails in the queue to be processed.
The Email Delivery Order:
Internet sends email for AthensGuy.com customers to our public mail relay
The AthensGuy.com public relay server stores the email on the harddrive
Emails in the public relay queue are passed through the spam filtering software
The spam filtering software tags every email with spam and virus violations
The email is then returned to the customer's mail storage server where it is placed in either the INBOX, SPAM, or VIRUS folder.
