Datacenter Network Outage Over - Part 2
Posted on Monday, September 26 @ 11:00:00 EDT by admin

Web Hosting Service Announcements The datacenter hosting the primary AthensGuy.com server had a network outage today from 8:50am to 10:50am and then again from 1:45pm to 3:25pm. All services are back up now.

A description of the AthensGuy.com uptime can be found here.

Part 2  -  1:45pm to 3:25pm

This outage has caused business and organizational problems for hundreds of thousands of people.  According to our datacenter the original firewall outage has been corrected and will not happen again.  From our datacenter's Facebook update:

At 2pm EST, a software error caused another network misconfiguration. As a consequence, 1&1 Dedicated and Virtual Servers from our customers are not available on the Internet.

Our engineers have identified the source of the problem and are working on a final resolution. We expect the first servers to be back online soon.

Part 1  -  8:50am to 10:50am

This was one of those "nothing you can do about it" outages.  The networking in the datacenter was down for the two hours.  At first thought it is very aggravating when this sort of thing happens.  But to be honest, I've worked for three major national internet providers and there's no network provider on the planet that's up all the time (regardless what their websites say).  In fact, the last datacenter outage was two and a half years ago and that one only lasted ten minutes.  Our provider was quick to respond, and all is working now.

Thank you for your patience!  Let us know if you have any questions.

Cordially,
Patrick MacDonald
